In an interview what is the best way of telling the interviewer that you really want the job?

Blind them with knowledge - do as much research as you can and bring up what you've found out. That way you look keen.

I agree with cooky, look at their website etc.

In general though I have to say that an interviewer is not so interested in what you want, more what you can do for their company so the fact that you really want the job may not mean that much to them - after all, they know that you could change your mind during the first week!

My best advice to impress: prepare your "career statement", a short snappy summary (20 words or so) describing yourself in honest terms that will make you sound what they are looking for, learn it and use it when appropriate.

Don't be afraid of actually using the words "I really want this job"! Just make sure, however, that the next word is 'because'.
e.g: "I really want this job because I know that I'd really enjoy it. But, as well as that, I think that I've got something to give to your firm in terms of my experience and enthusiasm. I know that this is the right job for me and I really believe that I'm the right person for the job".

(Well, it worked for me at my last interview. So it migt work for you too!).

The best way is to get them to want you. As a self employed person I have to do this all the time and of course it if you are very interested and enthusiastic about the job it will go a long way. Don't forget to prepare a good CV to "sell yourself" by emphasising your good points.

There is sometimes nothing worse than simply saying I want something - will put most people off unless everything else is in place. You need to convince them you are the best person for the position, not that you really want it. You must show them that you have everything they need. If they ask you the question then tell them openly that you want it because.... What kind of job is it? Maybe people can give some more structured answers for you? I would however recommend getting 3 or 4 books from the library on interview skills. Research the kind of questions that may be asked and then more importantly the kind of answers they are looking for. Would you hire someone whose best line is "I really want this" or someone who shows you they have absolutely everything they are looking for? If you can move it to the stage that the employer ends up saying "We really want you" then you have done it.
