There must be a point when your sick pay will run out, and then you will need to apply for benefit. But you should find out now how much you are entitled to just incase it is not enough to live, on etc.Your doc will be able to tell you when someone can be classed as disabled. You have to apply for disability living allowance, and it is VERY strict. For example, if you can pick up a piece of paper from the floor, wash yourself and cook for yourself, then you almost certainly won't be able to ge it- but do find out.
I have had really serious back problems for years and I currently get Access to Work benefit. Basically, if you can't walk from the bus stop to your place of work, which I can't, then they will pay for your taxi (minus the bus fare). That means I can keep working, and paying the mortgage etc even though I can;t walk at the moment.
Was the accident at work anything you can get compensation for?
