Just arrived in the UK as a student two weeks ago and didn’t know my documents need to be attested. Does anyone know a reliable translation company that can help? Or is anyone here a translator?

What language do you want translating and where in the UK are you?

You need to provide a bit more information - not much point asking for a translator without specifying language.

as my nephew commented: getting Japanese mortgage documents translated and attested has been absolute hell

Perplexity AI (https://labs.perplexity.ai) answered your question: Here are three agencies that appear to handle a significant volume of Japanese document translation and attestation services in the UK:

London Translation Services: This agency offers certified Japanese translations in London and throughout the UK. They provide translations for a wide range of documents including birth certificates, marriage certificates, academic records, and financial documents. Their pricing starts from £75 per document, with turnaround times typically between 1-2 business days.
DocsBase London: This translation agency offers comprehensive Japanese to English and English to Japanese translation services. They specialize in various document types including financial, legal, technical, and civil certificates. DocsBase London emphasizes their fast turnaround times, 24/7 customer service, and ability to handle urgent translation requests.
Translation NI: While based in Belfast, this agency provides Japanese document translation services throughout the UK. They offer translation, certification, and legalization services for a wide range of Japanese documents. Their process includes translation, proofreading, and optional notary or solicitor certification, with the entire procedure typically taking up to 2 days.

These agencies stand out for their comprehensive services, quick turnaround times, and ability to handle a variety of document types.

Google can translate documents but no idea if that would be accepted by those requiring the translation.
