Does anyone know of any housing schemes which help people to buy a home if they are not a first time buyer?

My story - bought a new build for a few years but due to finanacial insecurity sold it and moved back in with parents.

Now 2 years later I want to buy another home but don't have the advantage of a first time buyer. My bank won't lend too much either : D

Shared ownership

It looks like shared ownership, as suggested by Bednobs, might be the best route to go down:

Thanks all, just seen a scheme called 'staircasing' too which is a similar thing

Who is to know you're not a first time buyer, coming from parental home surely covers it ?

^^^ HMRC would know because there would be a record, linked to the applicant's name and NI number, of a previous application for FTB Stamp Duty relief.

A further application could lead to a prosecution under Section 2 of the Fraud Act 2006 ('fraud by false representation') or under Section 3 thereof ('fraud by failing to disclose information').  The maximum penalty is one of 10 years imprisonment.

After reading more about the staircasing buyers scheme imprisonment sounds like the better option

^^^ 'Staircasing' is an integral part of the 'shared ownership' scheme.  However that doesn't mean that you're forced to use it; it's entirely up to you:
