How many letters and do you have any?

Is there a letter count, and do you have any placed?

There were none on mozza's other post so maybe they're alphapuzzles or quiz questions.

They are from the RTE Christmas Xword, I think. The 'toilet' one has been asked already.

So we really should be given letter counts.

WElcome to AnswerBank, though, Mozza. It's better to give us all the information you have.

Mensa - anagram of 'means'.

Thanks, Captain2, very useful info.

PS What an awful clue!

Somewhat long winded I agree, NaC. 😉

I always think that RTE clue setters like to make clues at least twice as long as they need to be.

OK...I read your responses...I didn't have letters ij the word when I posted here initially..so the word has 5 letters and the first two letters are GE. The third letter might be N or P..though I'm not entirely sure on the other word that might produce those two letters...

Question Author

I think the answer to my question is "Genie".Does anyone agree ???...If you consult a Genie for an answer..that would be cheating...that's my logic ...

Mozza, wasn't there another question about a spirit in a bottle, and people suggested Genie for that?

^ sorry, links not working

16a. That's the spirit...from a bottle of spirits? (5)?e??e

Question Author

"Neveracrossword"...yes at 16 across that question is asked and the answer is Genie too. I assume that the same answer can be used for different questions within the same crossword? I am not aware that there is a rule against this. Can someone clarify this for me ????

Thanks, Mozza. It's not common to see the same answer twice in a crossword - and I don't really see how Genie works for that 'Only by under ...' clue!

PS The RTE clues are frequently... bizarre (that's being polite!).

Question Author

OK I think Genie is wrong...the available letters are now GE_ _ A...can any one help??..i thought the middle letter was N or maybe P but for 47 Down I can't seem to get the second word..im pretty sure the first word on that is "Egg"...so the answer could be Egg On or Egg Up...or something else...

Thanks, Mozza. I'm afraid I'm finding it a bit confusing having parts of some clues given, suggestions for some letters and so on! Because I don't have a copy and don't have the clues, the Egg stuff doesn't mean much to me.

Question Author

OK I think Genie is wrong because 55D is Train Set and I am unsure of the second word to 47D...so the 5 letter answer includes "G E _ _ A" ... does anyone know the solution ??

Question Author

Neveracrossword...47 down "How one might push humpty dumpy back on the wall? (3,2)"...Egg fits for first word...I could only think of ON or UP for the final word whose last letter is the missing middle letter of "GE_ _E"
