Are any of you on this BP tablet? ( Amlodipine) or have been on it? My husband's BP was very high last night and today. Got him into GP surgery for check up. It was still high. Unusual for him. He's already on Ramipril 10mg, for a valve repair several years ago, which usually lowers BP. So now he's been given this other one to take too, at different times of day, hoping it will bring it down. He has been feeling slightly dizzy at times. Just wondered what your thought are if any of you take this drug. Thanks.

My wife takes both, has done for some years. No problems

I take 10mg amlodipuine and 5mg ramipril once a day. No side effects after 6 years.

Yes, in fact I've only just taken my daily dose 5mg.  My BP was down last time I checked but whether it's due to Amlodipine, or one of the other regular drugs (atorvastatin, ezetimibe, clopidogrel) I am not in a position to judge.

Hi Patsy.

Am on ramipril 10mg and amlodipine 10mg, one of each per day. Have been on both for a good few years.

I take both at same time. Was advised to take them at same time of day and preferably in the evening as a school of thought said they work best in the evening. However, when in hospital I was given all my meds at same time of morning as new school of thought said it doesn't matter about taking bbp tabs at night.

Might take a while to find correct doseage for hubby, but hope he'll be OK soon xx

Thank you all. Very reassuring. I'll pass these messages on. 😀

I'm on 5mg Amlodipine + 10 mg Ramipril. BP is not well controlled at the moment & doc has added another drug - not sure what as I aint got it yet.

No really noticeable side effects. Amlodipine is said to cause swollen ankles though. I take mine 1st thing in the morning.

Question Author

Thanks davebro3. His doctor thought he might feel lightheaded if he took them all in morning. So she suggested he take one lot in morning other at night. We'll see how he gets on.

We have a clinical pharmacist at the health centre who deals directly with patients and whose advice is always welcome regarding meds. His advice was to take both at the same time for maximum effect, in the evening.

Question Author

Thanks gingerbread. Initially, he was told to take them together morning or evening but thought it might make him feel lightheaded. So it was suggested he take at separate times. It's a case of trial & error at the moment.

^^^^ I definitely typed gingebee! 😄

I too have been on this for years & have had no problems with it.

Question Author

Thanks Sharon. That's good to hear..

From memory (🙄) there was a clinical study a few years back comparing evening & morning BP medication. I don't think it found much difference.

Thanks for that information, davebro3.
