Counselling vacancies

My partner has a diploma in 'person centred' counselling and wishes to utilise this qualification to secure a career change. However, she is experiencing difficulty in identifying suitable vacancies. Does anyone know of a good source of job vacancies - particularly in the north-west - requiring such skills? Unfortunately, opportunities for voluntary work are limited given her need to work full-time at present.

My sympathies to your partner - as a newly qualified counsellor myself I know how counselling jobs are like gold dust - too many counsellors, not enough posts. She could log onto www.counselling.ltd.uk and check out their vacancies, and I think the BACP website sometimes shows jobs on offer around the country.

Perhaps as a fill in she could do some voluntary work, which would give her some practical experience. If she's a good CV, perhaps she could send them off to potential employers!

All Universities have a counselling service these days and their service is always under heavy use (I work at a University in the East Midlands), so I wonder if you could look at the HR pages of local places?

If she is changing careers, would an organisation like the samaratans or relate help to build up her experience before applying for a paid job?

Hi. I can appreciate totally how difficult it is. I have been online today for what feels like hours trying to locate suitable job sources. I have been going round in circles, and it is pretty frustrating! I could so relate to your partner, as I in the same predicament. I am lookin primarily for voluntary work, as a stepping stone into paid counselling work in the future. I also have a diploma in person- centred counselling, so I'd like to ask that if your partner has further luck in locating a good site, if you could please answer me back. Thanks!
