Shall I chase that Job up

About 3 weeks ago, I attended an interview with the local Council,on the same day they phoned me up to say that subject to references and medical the job was mine. I phoned my referees and they said they gave excellent references over two weeks ago, the Council last week returned my passport with a Criminal reference clearence and last Wedneday I took the medical and the Doctor said no problem there. Shall I e mail my contact at the Council and ask when am I gonna start or keep quiet. I am not working at present.

After three weeks I would certainly put a phone call in to the person who interviewed you. You can say "I believe my references have come back to you and I really wanted to let you know also that I have had my medical and all seems to be ok. Have you a date in mind yet when you think you would like me to commence work?"

i'd give a bit longer

think - wednesday = medical.

thursday = doc writes his official report - perhaps posts last thing

fri = in the post to council

sat = arrives....or not...who knows?

sun = X

mon = maybe just arrived, but even so it has to be read and considered, then they have to prepare various employent document etc

then arrange your schedule etc and arrange a letter to you etc

and thats with all the other stuff they have to do.

i would wait until the end of the week.

I work for the council... phone them and ask when they would like you to start, sometimes they are a little on the slow side with contacting new employees. good luck in your new job.

I also used to work for my local council and believe me, EVERYTHING they do is slow!

Unfortunately Councils are riddled with people who specialise in procrastination. Three weeks is a heart beat in terms of waiting for a response from them. It's not uncommon (within my council) for interviewees to be contacted SIX MONTHS after first attending an interview to be told that the council is now ready for them to take up the appointment. One problem is that very often the council department recruiting, although will have the authority to recruit for the vacancy, it doesn't actually have the clearance from the finance department to fill the vacancy. In an ideal world each department would work together but very often appointment take up can be delayed while the finance department facrors the budget for the following year. This is particularly pertinent as they approach the end of the financial year.

ditto- I didn't get a letter offering me an interview until three weeks after the closing date! I assumed I wasn't going to hear.
