I'm off travelling to China for 5 months: the first month learning business and mandarin at Beijing university, the next two on a work experience in Shanghai and the last 2 months backpacking around the rest of the country.
However I'm having problems knowing how or what visa to get. Ideally I'd like a 5/6 month business visa (F visa), however I only have an support letter for the university course. Does anyone know whether it will be possible to get a 5 month business visa with only this documentation?
Please help!!!!!!

I did it slightly different tho as the company i worked for was HQ'd in HK. Thats where i got the business Visa to work in China for 3 months. i then returned to HK and used it as a base for travelling around China. (British passport holders get another 180 days max everytime you enter/re-enter HK)
My coursemates however managed to get Chinese Business Visas with just Uni conformation letter no problems from the UK.
Hope this helps
你什们时候去中国?一路平安!
Unfortunately Danny, I can't get to the Embassy coz I've foolishly agreed to work up to a few days before i go. So i've had to use visa agencies who seem to be telling me different things. I've sent all the stuff off to an agency called MDX so fingers crossed i should get an visa in the next few days.
Cheers for the advice Leedsfinest, did you have a good time in China? Any tips for when I'm out there, what to do/not to do?
