Payroll
2 Answers
I would like to know of peoples experiences working in payroll. How easy do you find it to take time off, Do you find that you are busy all the time or there are times of the month when you have little to do. I currently work in payroll but every time I ask for leave am told it isn't convenient and am busy for part of the month and much less busy at the end of the month. Is this part of the course in payroll?

Apart for the fact they tended to be mony old women, they were always busy and what you describe seems to be the norm. I.E. really busy around the period of payrolls but less so right after that. Many places did weekly payrolls and that was even worse.
But yes I think this is just the way payroll is.... some companies were better than others so if you think your current job is too demanding you could maybe try and get a job elsewhere, but that could just be out of the frying pan and into the fire.

Different payroll departments will have different levels of activity. For example, a factory payroll may well run a weekly payroll and admin issues like dealing with overtime, etc. with always keep life busy. Monthly payrolls obviously have less busy times but in my experience, in such cases, Payroll departments are often landed with other jobs relating to pay and benefits, such as administering company private health schemes, pension scheme administration etc. Such is working life these days. With companies continually seeking to increase productivity and reduce wage costs, there arn't many jobs around where you get an easy ride.
