Cake Manufacturing business.
How would you go about setting up your own cake manufacturing business? Is it possible to supply to big hotel companies? What qualifications would you need?

Both you and any staff you employ will need certificates in Food Hygeine If you intend to supply big companies, hotels and supermarkets etc they may well have their own hygeine standards that have to be complied with as a condition of supply. This will include, a thorough HACCP plan, foreign body detection systems, metal detection systems, critical path planning and evidence of adherence to weights amd measures legislation, as any packaging will need to exhibit weight declarations. Procedures for shelf life testing to determine best before dates (can be subcontracted) evidence of pathegen testing if using fresh ingredients like cream (again can be sub contracted) and also temperature controlled storeage for finished product. Some or all of the above should be taken into consideration before embarking on a food manufacturing business.
Why not start by making cakes for friends and family and progress from there.
A friend of ours makes wonderful cakes with the icing done to order (she will make it any design you like: Bob the builder, soccer team, car shape, garden design, ladies boobs etc).
Because she is so good people tell other people, who tell other people and so it grows.
She makes cakes for birthdays, weddings, christmas, and all sorts of other events.
Once you get good at it you could ask local bread and cake shops if they are interested in them selling the cakes that you supply. They could advertise them and you supply them to order.
Maybe then you can open your own cake shop one day !
