Expected salary on application form?

I am filling in an application form for a job and they want to know my expected salary.

I have no idea what to put because I don't know how much you would usually get paid in the role I'm applying for!

It is for a foreign exchange consultant for Thomson (the holiday company).

Obviously I would be working with money so my guess is I would earn slightly more than the sales consultants but I'm not sure.

Basically what I am asking is, how much difference would you think it makes to if they employ you?

Is it better to put a lower amount than what you think?

Thanx for any advice

My guess is that they would pay around 13,000. I know they are not well paid jobs but you are right in that it is a higher salary than the consultants.

I would be tempted to put 13-15,000. Unless you are not willing to work for this amount. It is better to put slightly higher not lower.

Have you looked on their website? Sometimes salaries are listed on the vacancies page.

could you just put 'negotiable' and see what they offer you? - i'd say they would likely give you a fair offer...

Thanx for you answers.

As it is online it says you can only type in numbers, so even though I would have preferred to I can't put 'negotiable'.

I was thinking the pay for a sales consultant would be around 12,000 and for the job I am applying for it would be 13-14,000 so I am glad that you have said this salary as well.

Thanx for your help
