Should I follow my dreams or do something that I know is solid?

I'm a 23 college student and still got a long way to go. I am still however undeclared with a major because I keep changing my mind. I don't know what to do... I don't want to be like everyone else I know thats graduated college, has a degree and works ina resturant or is a bartender. I want a career after college. My dream is to work in the fashion industry, or have my own column in Cosmopolitan magazine, however it's extremely competitive. So i've been thinking about getting a nursing degree and maybe get my masters in it too... I dont know though. I mean I have always wanted to do something where I know I can make a difference in peoples lives but its not my passion... Should I get my degree in something I have a passion for and something that I will be devoted to or should I major in something that will be a lot of hard word, dedication, and a lot of hard work if the only im doing it is because i know when i get out of college i will have a job getting paid a decent salary. What should I do?

Hi. It really depends on if you think you can stick at however many years of training and then however many years in a job you're not sure you want. Would a course in fashion really help you to get a job in that field or is it something you think you could get into without training? I did a film degree because it was something I love but I never thought about what would happen at the end of it, and since finishing I have never used it. I was going to change to psychology at the time but decided to stick with film, and now am doing another degree....in psychology. I don't regret my first degree though because it helped make me who I am and it was right at the time. I guess what I am saying is that you do need to think about what will happen at the end of it so you are not wasting your time and money, but at the same time it has to be something you enjoy enough to stick at. Do you actually want to be a nurse? If you don't then there might be the danger of you giving up because your heart isn't in it and then it will still be a waste of time. I'm sorry I can't help more or give you an answer, obviously that has to be your decision. Good luck though, and be happy.
