Hi, I work part-time in a high street stationers and have done for nearly 2 years now and am getting extremely bored of my job. I am currently doing fashion design at college and would like to head more in that direction with employment. I've thought about working in a clothes shop such as topshop but I don't really want to work at a till, is there any other options I could take? I can only do part-time work because I still have another year left at college but just want a change. help!

Do you have a local department store? I used to work for one in Northern Ireland and the opportunities in the independant retail sector may be better and easier to come by than in large chains. The store I worked for had their own buying office and fashion marketing team. If you have a local department store you could approach them to see if there are any head office positions or any way that you could work with them to get fashion buying or marketing experience.
in the larger stores there are many other jobs you can do and with the size you won't be expected to do a bit of everything.

why not ask for some work experience - a few days a week, perhaps organising and dressing the mannequins etc?

that would involve creating a whole look from various departments such as jewellery, hats etc as well as actually putting the clothes on it.
