would this be concerning types of writing, for example, pursuasive/discursive/reporting etc. It might also have to do with technical writing.

Do you have any more info with this question as it is a bit vague? it sounds like something off an exam syllabus such as "Candidate to provide examples of writing for a specific purpose." or possibly out of the national curriculum etc...
