Recommendations for Thailand

Thinking of going to Thailand in September for a holiday, and would like some ideas of where to go and where to stay. Sort of thing we're looking for (there are 2 of us) - is a quality detached apartment/bungalow (not in a massive resort complex) on a nice beach, away from the drunken partying yobs (ie. not smack bang in the middle of Chaweng, Koh Samui) but close enough to some good restaurants/bars. Price wise - as cheap as is possbible for a good quality apartment/bungalow. Thanks in advance for any assitance. All advice
