College question

Last year, my brother enrolled at college and signed up for an AS Level course. He was told that in the second year (this coming year) he would be taking an A2 course.

But he has heard from his mate that he needs to enrol this year AGAIN in order to take part in the A2 course. Is this true?

I had to enrol at my college for both years whilst doing my a-levels, all you had to do in the second year (A2) was go in confirm your name and address details were still correct and have a chat about your AS results, I think its just so they know who is definatley doing the second year, who has dropped out and also people may wish to change course its just so they can get accuarate numbers and plan the classes and time tables for September i think.

Why don't you give the college a ring it may not be the same with all colleges.

He'll most probably have to enroll again as some students only do the first year to get the AS and don't want the full A level. He should get a letter with his results letting him know what to do, if not just get him to ring up the college. hope this helps. Lou x

The AS and A2 Level qualifications are to all intents and purposes separate. You need the former to enrol on the latter. Bit like GCSEs - you need them (generally) to take AS/2 Levels

Being separate, you have to enrol for both. Say your AS results aren't good enough for continuation, you may have to take it again.

This is only a recent change. Time was, you got your GCSEs, then enrolled on a 2 year A-Level Course.

In the college where I work all the teachers spoke to their students in May/June about progressing and completed progression forms for any students who wanted to progress so that they could come in during the summer holidays and enrol. Thus securing their place before main enrolment and also avoiding huge queues at main enrolment.
Has he not had a chat with his teacher/tutor?
