yes it is possible to get a file back and normally you do need to install a program that will do this. fo3nix has given you one that I understand is good. There's a better chance of recovery if you have realised the mistake immediately and have not written over the disc with a lot of extra files afterwards.
Of course vehelpfulguy has a point but was totally tactless! Yes, I think many of us realise the need to regularly do a back up so we don't need our noses rubbed in it with a patronising reply.
When working on something I regularly do a back up. I can in fact save to a cd a file I am working on just before I close it. I may end up with 30,000 copies but at least the file is saved. Every month I use Nero backItUp to save all my docs, photos etc., onto one cd (I have 2 cd's and use them alternate months)
ok, so the mistake happened and you will never do this again. Try the link you have been given and hopefully it will work for you.

Hi all, thanks for the responses.
I have downloaded pcinspector but still cant find the file. I wondered if perhaps the space the data had been stored in had been overwritten so i created and deleted an excel file (that was what my original file was) knowing that i have not saved anything after. But still when i used pcinspector it wouldnt find that file either?!?!?
The strange thing is that there are loads of files that were deleted on the same day just not the one i want!
Any ideas?
Oh yes and a short message to vehelpfulguy. What did you hope to achieve by posting such a response? Sarcasam was most definately not needed here - my annoyance at myself is enough! You are indeed correct of course, but never-the-less that was as tactful as a punch in the face! Just do yourself a favour mate - in future, think before you act!
