Im going to apply for a job that I've seen in the newspaper. I intend to include a C.V. and a covering letter. Whitch will give the best inpresion a hand written covering letter or a typed covering letter?
Unless the advert specifically asks for a handwritten letter, then type it and sign it by hand at the bottom. Also make sure it's printed in the same font as your CV, it looks more professional and shows attention to detail.
Typed letter. Just make sure its in a standard font e.g Times New Roman; it's justified and you spell and grammar check everything.
A well written cover letter can advertise your computer skills and your grasp of English far more than a C.V could so plan it carefully and don't waffle.
I don't even look at the C.V if the covering letter is not hand written, It does not look more professional to type a letter, it just looks as if you can't write.
What's the point of enclosing a letter with your C.V, if its all typed, anyone can do that.
For info. I also bin all C.V's on coloured paper, Why? I hate it so its just a way of sorting.
If your handwriting is neat, that's the way to go. Many companies employ people with graphology skills (it's one of my hobbies) and your handwriting will tell the recruiter a lot about you.
If your writing doesn't do you any favours ie it's not very legible, then stick to the typewritten letter as first contact.
Depends on your handwriting! Some employers like to see proof that you are able to produce a professional looking letter that is typed, and almost all will assume that you are at least capable of handwriting....
