Best A Levels to study for midwifery

I am planning to eventually embark on a degree in miwifery course but i don't currently have the relevant qualificatons. I was originally going to do an access course and do a diploma but as the course is so competitive (and the college that i was going to do the course at has been messing me about) i decided to go with a levels to ensure myself the best start i can get. I need to have grades BCC (240 ucas points) for the uni i would ulitimately apply to/hope to attend and they say that human biology is preferable but i am planning on this anyway. I need to decide what to do for the other 2 though. As i am getting on a bit (well am only 29) and work full time at the moment I would rather do subjects that are of interest to me but would it be better for me to do subjects more relevant to the course than to do ones of interest to me? I was thinking i should do another science and either maths or english but i really don't want to do maths if i can help it (even though my highest GCSE grade is in maths!) I am interested in english language though and am thinking that Psychology would be both interesting and relevant for the future.

I did do a year of a levels at college after leaving school (don't have AS levels though) and did maths, chemistry and biology but i don't really want to do what i have already studied before if that makes sense!

Any help would be appreciated as i really can't decide myself what the best course of action would be (and the uni websites don't really tell you much). btw am starting off with 2 and leaving the human biology until later as i know that i have a keener interest in it and will spend more time with it.

i'm 39 and halfway through my nursing diploma. i intend to do the midwifery course afterwards on the 18 month course because it seems the best way to get in. i didnt have all the quals needed but will have a better chance as a qualified nurse.
have you been for an open day where you want to go.
have you got the option of going anywhere or must it be local?
the nmas website tells you what you need and which unis have spaces and when.

yeah i've looked at the nmas site. I need to be local really as i have my other half here. I am in crawley west sussex so Surrey and Brighton uni's are closest to me but when the time comes i will probably apply to a couple in South London too as am fairly close to there too. I haven't been to any open days yet. I'll probably wait until i have progressed a bit on my a level courses.

I did consider doing the nursing first but there are certain areas i just don't think i could do! I have been trying to do this for about 2 years now seriously so i have looked into every possible angle.

Hi Lisa,
I am a qualified nurse and studied late:
Psychology would be good - also perhaps consider sociology as womens health and pregnancy have big sociological content .
Wouldn't really advise maths, if you can calculate to a reasonable level then you should be ok with what you already have.
