I know that you are new to this site Tamzin, but nobody would be able to help you with this query on here, as firstly it is a question and answer site and this section is for more general job related questions, secondly you don't even give the name of the paper you saw the ad so how are we supposed to help you. I would think if the job has been advertised in a paper there will be a phone number that you can ring for more information about the vacancy included in the ad.

Hi, I worked as a family support worker for awhile. I worked under a social worker in many different homes. My purpose was to work with families to keep them together, encourage children to go to school. teach some parents how to do basic cleaning, cooking, sensible shopping, in general good parenting. The children I worked with were all families in the lower income bracket. One family I worked with, the Mother was an achoholic, I just called at her home every day to check her kids were okay. This work keeps kids from going into care. As the job title says, Family Support Worker. Hope this helps, will tell you more if you wish, just ask.
