How much Notice do you have to give in a job if all you're wanting to do is swap shifts on 3 days? (still working those days but you just cant work till the end). I am 18 & work in a clothes shop, i have a 16 hour contract. I started work in Febuary, and since then up to last week i have been working 7am-11am on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays, then usually a 4 hour shift on Saturday. But last week my hours have been changed round so i am doing different shifts during the day which mainly include working till 6:30. I got tickets to go to the theatre & to see 2 bands on the 27th, 31st (oct) & 3rd (nov) which start at 7pm so i cant work till 6:30pm on these dates. Yesterday i gave my manager a note to say that i could not work till 6:30pm on those dates and she was saying that she needed forewarning about things like this & i told her thats what i was doing now, and she was saying that it wasnt good enough & she didnt think she would be able to swap me round with someone. So can someone please tell me how much notice you should give if you only want to change shifts in the day. i should also point out that everyone minus manager's just do 4 hour shifts, and the Rota is only done a week in advance, so the rota with the days i want to swap shifts on hasn't been written yet.
Sounds like your manager is being a bit unreasonable to me.
If your hours only changed last week, there's not really a lot more notice you could have given her.
If the rota's not been done yet, I don't see why ahe can't accomodate your prior engagements.
I have to agree with ugly_bob, your manager is being unreasonable and could - if they tried - accomodate the changes. realistically, if your shifts changed every week you'd have no argument but given that you've been doing for over 6months they should at least offer a period of adjustment - what does your contract say?
hi,
i have had experience in being responsible for doing rotas and i would say that as the rota has not been done yet then you are giving plenty of notice.
