When is the last GCSE for Year 11,2007 and when can they officially leave?
4 Answers
I want to book an early July holiday and I wanted to know when they can leave. I've had rather vague answers about work experience that needs to be booked from school,so I just wondered if anyone knew,as its now half term and I can't chase them upfor 2 weeks.Do they HAVE to do this work experience, and if so when is it? Can they officially leave after their last GCSE and when is the last one next summer.?

Check out OCR and AQA who are the main bodies.
This year the exams were done and dusted by the end of June so I think you will be fine for July.
Work experience is normally done in Yr 10 in the school where I work so I am not sure why they would make them do it in Yr11 when they should be concentrating on their exams and college applications.

Yes it is odd,but that's what they do at this school.I know that they have different exam boards for each subject so I suppose I'll have to search them all out. I know that they have a Work Experience Week after their exams and that they are supposed to get placements booked by writing to employers now.Is there a complete timetable anywhere on the net?
You shouldn't have to wait two weeks to get the sort of information you're seeking. It should be available on the school's own website. If it's not, you should complain to the school.
Examination timetables are available online, here:

The rules for determining the school leaving date are set down in DfES circular 11/97. This states that the relevant date is the last Friday in June. i.e. 29/06/07

Arrangements for work experience are either made by individual schools or by the relevant local education authority. If the dates fall within the normal school calendar (i.e. before the leaving date), work experience forms part of the school's curriculum and is therefore compulsory. However, it's extremely unlikely that any LEA would prosecute the parents of any young person for non-attendance during this period if it occurs after the GCSE exams.

Many thanks. That looks like an excellent site.Yes, the school web site doesn't have that particular years details, but states the official end of term date for the school and I was hoping to go on holiday just a bit earlier this year. They have said that after the exams they do work experience for a week which has still got to be fixed up with each individual and with each employer. Thx for help though, I guess I can risk booking it.
