What do you think of this Super Nanny idea that has now come up.Whatever next.It would do more good if that money was put into more policing and hospitals.Do you think that half the parents that live on drugs are going to care.?

I see nothing wrong with it .

People aren't born with parenting skills - it is something that is hopefully acquired through trial and error - even by the best of us .
I have two daughters , and god knows it can sometimes be difficult - and I consider myself to have above average parenting skills .

Some parents will need help and advice when they are trying to bring up a fully rounded offspring .

Afterall is it not preferable to assist parents that require help in bringing up their children to be good citizens , rather than ignoring them , and then having the kids turning out to be louts and a problem to society , and all the problems associated with that ?

Whether some parents are on drugs or not , is irrevelant , we must at least attempt to assist them .
Simply ignoring the problem is not an option .

Thank you for your reply but I don't think you see my point.I didn't need any help to be told how to bring up my children and my parent's either. The problem has got worse as in this day both parents have to go to work sometimes and this is where most of the problems start with the children. And I still say that the money that is going to be spent on this stupid idea should be spent on more policeing and employ more teachers and nurses and there is still help available for children with problems.
I don't think the idea itself is all that bad although I do agree that the money could be better spent in other places, such as the NHS.

Maybe I'm missing something, and if so, could someone put me right but I don't understand why the government gets the blame for troublesome kids/teenagers. I've heard quite a few times on the news, people asking why the parents should be blamed. Well why not? Why would you blame the government but not the parents. I really don't see how the government can be held responsible for the actions of mindless individuals.

Yes Milly I agree with you.If kids are taught right from wrong from the start there shouldn't be a problem but there is the children with learning disabilities and there is help for them.Yes I agree it has got nothing to do with the goverment kids getting in trouble it is up to the parents to make sure there children are brought up properly but sadly in this day and age this is not the case.
I don't know if I agree with your point about problems starting as both parents are out at work. Apparantly, this Supernanny idea is being brought into deprived areas where parents are either on a low income or unemployed. This got me wondering; why should being either on a low income or unemployed make for bad parenting. Is it not the wish of people for their children to be the very best they can be in life - or am I so out of touch with the 'sub class' that I really have no idea of their values and beliefs.
My mother was brought up alone during the war, in virtual poverty, by my grandmother and grew up to be a decent successful human being, with good morals and judgement skills, as given to her by her own mother. My grandmother wanted my mum to better herself and be successful in life. Why have things changed so much?

Le Chat you have answered my question to the point I was trying to make in the last 6 lines of your answer.Yes why have things changed so much? It is because both parents have to go to work and from some families the children are left to do as they like and this is when they start to get in trouble.I don't mean all families.I was raised in a low income family and I have struggled to bring my children up which lucklily for me have never got in trouble and know right from wrong.I don't mean that it is only low income families .Now lets face the truth sometimes the social services can't do their job properly and are too late in intervening in some cases so it is going to be the same with this so called super nannies .Waste of time and money.
Folks

You might like to know that I posted this thread on the news section yesterday , so there will be debate going on over there as well , on the subject
Wendilla, twice you have said "both parents have to go to work".
Whist I agree there are situations where this is true, but more often than not both parents do not HAVE to go to work. They choose to do that so that, as we used to say, they can keep up with the Joneses. When I was brought up in the 50's and 60's we lived according to our income, if you couldn't afford something then that was that.
Current thinking is that if you want something then you should have the money to get it, whether by working at several jobs (and s*d the kids), stealing something to fund the lifestyle, or getting the state to provide it.
In other words we used to live according to our income, now we want our income to provide the lifestyle we want.
I used to be a sales manager with a good income, expense account and top of the range Omega car, holidays twice a year, eating out whenever. Gave it all up to run my own small business, low income, no holidays, M reg car, ocassional takeaway, and guess what - I'm much happier. So what if my mates show off in their brand new car and sent us postcards from the other side of the world. I couldn't give a monkeys. If more people could revert to this way of thinking then they may have time to look after their kids properly.
End of rant.

This is what I am trying to get at and I should have said most parents have to go to work and yes you are right some have to and some chose to and what I am trying to get at is that when I was bringing up my children we didnt need the help of super nannys we learned our children right from wrong. So if all parents did this we wouldn't need so called super nanny's I can't see how they can help even the teacher's are frightened to say too much to the kids nowadays. Thanks for reply.
