I am really keen to begin teaching piano in schools, have taught privately but am bored in my current job as an estate agent and need to change careers.
My three surrounding councils say they have no vacancies! (Birmingham, Worcester and Solihull and am frustrated. Thanks
I'm sorry but I doubt that many (if any) LEAs will take you on unless you have specialist qualifications.
I know several peripatetic music teachers and they're all qualified (graduate) schoolteachers. Most of them had several years classroom experience behind them before they could get peripatetic posts. In every case, their jobs involve more than just teaching puplis to play a particular instrument. (Typically, they organise local youth orchestras or music summer schools).
Thanks Chris. I have a music degree and Solihull Council said they would see me for interview, but no-one seems to have a post for me! Been teaching 4 people for a year and love it. its just perserverence.
