I am currently doing a HND in Photography and would really like to get some hand on experience. To allow me to learn the art of photography faster and gain a strong knowledge and understanding of industry. Should I approach photographers and ask them whether they would take on a junior?

Why don't you ask about if you can do some work experience with a proffessional photographer? Chances are you won't get paid, but it's great experience, and I'm sure the photographer would love the help in most cases.
