Hi guys,
I wasn't sure where to post this, so I thought i'd try the most popular place!

My husband is thinking of working over in france which would mean us all following him obviously. I currently speak some French (to A'level) and would be keen to perfect it and learn eve more. My children would go to local school too. However, I was wondering what the credentials are for teaching in french schools. I have a Ba in English literature and a PGCE in secondary English. However, would I have to have a separate qualification to teach in public school in france, english language?

many thanks
mimi

To teach in a French "public" high school (= not private!), you need to have a formal teaching qualification, the CAPES (Certificat d'aptitude au professorat de l'enseignement du second degr).
You could become a language "assistant" without this, but you would only work few hours, and the posts are usually given to foreign students of French on a gap year.
Alternatively, "private" schools (=mostly catholic) do not require the CAPES and you can teach without it provided you have relevant qualification/experience (I think).
Have a look here for some info on the French system:

http://www.education.gouv.fr/
Of course, as Paul said, you can find English-teaching jobs in private "institutes" and schools of English for adults or teenagers if you have the TEFL, and relevant experience.
Good luck!
