can you reassure me or am i wrong?

i have not been happy in my job for a while and have managed to secure an interview for a position more suited to me.

I had an interview 2 weeks ago and as a result they said i was over qualified for that position but wanted to interview me for a different position. The person doing the interview was on holiday was away last week so i could not arrange to go on my day off. So i am going to have to call in sick as i cant get any day off this week. I feel so bad doing that and had nightmares about it last night but dont seem to have much choice now.

I can understand you feeling bad about taking time off sick when you are ok, but you say you are unhappy in your present job, so if I were you I would want to leave that job, as you do, so I would take the day off sick to atttend interview, we spend a long time at work so we should enjoy our jobs, go for that interview, get the new job and hopefully you will be a lot happier, good luck, Ray

well i supose i have not had a day off sick since last year and have not had more than a week in many years with the company.

its also very difficult facing a second interview after doing well on the first one i feel its hard to give more. Also ok i know i am in the wrong section but i am not sure about references i can give my current employer but not been in the current position long so not sure what my manager would say and i think i struggle for a second reference, could i use a friend of the family? I feel it being 2 years since uni it maybe a little unfair on the uni to ask for a reference/unrepresentative?

Oh, I really feel for you! But this in a way this is the lesser of two evils because this job really could be your future! If you didn't go, you would always wonder "what if". Go along and give it your best, most of us tell a little white lie from time to time and there is not a lot of harm in that. Best of luck! :)

Hi worried.me - another point to remember is you're interviewing them as much they are you - Are they actually good enough for you to want to be employed by them etc etc, I find repeating that little mantra helps with nerves. Good luck.

nuoyg, has made a good point that you are in a way interviewing them as well, and if they have asked you back,they must have liked what you said at first interview, as for references, ask them what they want ,quite often somebody that knows you well as a person outside of work will do,long as it is not family, you must just relax, sounds to me like they have a job for you, just be yourself and all will be well, good luck with it,

I think you're worrying too much about this, it's your life and your future that comes first. If you're not happy where you currently are, what's one white lie if you can end up somewhere better tomorrow?
Don't sweat it coz everyone's done the very same thing at one point or another. Make sure this is the job you really want and good luck with your interview.

ok but after reading some other threads i am thinking what do i say if asked the question does your employer know you are here? ie have you taken a sick day. If i was honest and said its not something i would normally do and have an exemplary record for many years how would they view it?

Trust me, they will not ask you if you have taken a sick day etc, well I for one would be very surprised if they did, nobody has ever asked me that, you really are worrying far to much, be confidant and just go for it, and when you get that job, change your name to "Happy me" :-))

If you're not happy where you are and you don't make a habit of taking sickies then go for it! Life is too short to be miserable in a job and if you have a chance to change that then you should. I have never known an interviewer to ask if your boss knows you are there - I have also interviewed several times and it's not a question I would consider asking. Good luck!

worried.me - if I can reassure you - in all the interviewing I did at work, not once did I ask the applicant whether they'd taken a day off sick to attend. It never crossed my mind to ask, the same as with most employers.

I was more interested in their expertise, their personality & appearance, etc, etc, etc.

ok but what if i got the job hand my notice in then the current company will work out when i had the interview and then tell the new one im a lier or just sack me?

Please stop it, you are thinking things that will never ever happen in a million years, go for the interview get the job, but please stop this worrying, if you are ever going to leave the job you are in, you are going to have to make decisions so make your mind up and be positive instead of looking at the negative side all the time,if you don't go for this you could be stuck where you are for years, you are not happy so do something about it. ok i will think it over/sleep on it. sorry to be a pian but i just dont like doing anything wrong and am scared things will go wrong if i do wrong. Though i suppose you are right it is quite possible i could decend into a black hole of a rut if i stay where i am.
