It depends what you mean by "home care". If you mean you wish to provide a peripatetic service to people in their own homes, then this is different to you setting up a nursing home (residential home) for example. You will also need to undertake a Criminal Records Bureau check. Either way, you are more likely to get customers and contracts if you can show that you have been trained for the task. If you intend to actually work as a carer yourself then the recommendation introduced by CSCI says you should now be qualified, ideally to NVQ3. To be a Residential Home Manager you need to have the Registered Manager's Award (Level 4 NVQ). Even the entry level NVQ contains instruction regarding moving and handling of service users so it's essential training if you are involved in this work. You may be eligible for funding towards this training, contact your local Jobcentre or Train to Gain, as there is funding available for people who wish to undertake NVQs (eligibility permitting.)
