dissertation
4 Answers
I've just started an MA in Gender, Sexuality and Culture, and it's time I started thinking about my dissertation...It's 15,000 words and my subject area is interdisciplinary, but mainly based in literature (although I am doing courses in film studies / sociology / medical and social history etc), so what I'm wondering is....what topic should I go with? I'm interested in Mass Observation and the changing role of women during WWII, the media coverage of the Cambridge spies debacle, and the media coverage of the Wolfenden report + consequences. Any suggestions of areas I could look at??

I suggest that you take the broadest possible topic
i.e.one which can encompass almost anything
concerned with gender, sexuality and culture.
Perhaps you could title your dissertation:
'Males and Females ~ a study of the differences '
There are many books on the subject, covering
genetics, physiology, anatomy, upbringing, culture,
environment, intelligence, expectations, etc. etc.
Give yourself a head start by reading the best
account I've ever come across, namely:
HUTT, Corinne : Males and Females
Penguin edition, 1972
ISBN 0 14 08 0563 X
