Hi guys, need your collective brain power here! my daughter, who is a manager in a concesion within a large department store, was bringing stock up from the loading bay this morning, 4 cartons on a dolly trolley, which is the maximum allowed under the guidelines, and she was pushing the load very slowly throught the aisle and a customer stepped out from one of the fashion mats and the boxes 'nudged' the old womans calf. My daughter was mortified and was shaking with the shock, but the woman and her husband were really obnboxious and the store managers have told my daughter not to worry, as the couple were disgusting and just out to make a big deal of it. Accidents happen and my daughter was following the health and safety guidelines, the only issue is she should not have been moving stock like that, it is the loading bays job, but they have been told to get the concessions to move their own stock as the bay is short staffed. Any ideas on any aspect of this? My daughter is still upset that she did hit the woman but even more upset that the woman would not accept her apology and was very nasty to my daughter. the store manager is fine about it and knows it was not my daughters fault as such.
I used to work in a supermarket and for this very reason we were told you should never push but pull ANY trolley on which you have stock. Even if you can see the customer, they may not see you and it is far better they bump into you than any trolley, be it a dolly type of full cage type
No idea of the legal implications of this though I suspect if, as you say they made a huge fuss, then they will certainly be looking to ask for compensation
the good thing was, her manager was supportive to her...and we cannot defend ourselves from customers who are totally nuts...because we follow the rule of "customers is always right", just be there for your daughter tell her that It'll be ok...and btw, why are you letting her work instead of going to school?
