I am payed on a 4 weekly period (13 times a year), my employer is trying to change this to a monthly pay period (12 times a year), They have canvased the employee's and this has met a majority rejection but they are still going to make the changes, can this be done without consent?

They can:

What if you and your employer don't agree? What your employer can do
If you don't agree, your employer is not allowed to just bring in a change. However, they can terminate your contract (by giving notice) and offer you a new one including the revised terms - effectively sacking you and taking you back on. Your employer would be expected to follow a statutory minimum dismissal procedure.

Why is everyone so against it? I can't see what difference if makes and being paid on the same date every month would make it easier to set up DD's etc for payday!
4 weekly pay is better than monthly for two reasons:
(a) you get money earlier and can get interest on it earlier
(b) you get paid for every day you work whereas on monthly pay you don't. On monthly pay you don't get an extra day's pay for working extra day (like 2008)
I meant to say you don't get any extra pay for the xtra day in a LEAP YEAR like 2008
Re point (b), it depends. If your annual salary is 15,000 you will still get this in a year whether it is paid 4 weekly ot monthly.

Point (a) is a good one but as I've never got any money left to earn interest on, it doesn't apply to me!!
Sorry cheekychops but you're incorrect regarding (a). Under weekly and 4 weekly pay you get paid for every day you work in your life. Under monthly pay you have to work these extra days (from leap years) for nothing.
