More to the point, are British MPs considered to be employed?

Buildersmate, Like it, Like it!! Would still like the real answer tho'.
buildersmate has raised a pertinent point. In European Law, those holding political office do not engage in economic activity amounting to employment nor self-employment.

A person holding political office is not an employee in EC law terms because he does not satisfy the criterion set out in ECJ case-law of providing a service of economic value under anothers direction: (C-66/85 Lawrie-Blum [1986] ECR 2121).

Neither can such a person properly be described as being self-employed, particularly given the absence of a service of economic value: (C-55/94 Gebhard [1995] ECR I-4165).

kempie. I t would appear we are running out of descriptions to define an M.P.'s employment and value to society. The only word left appears to be something akin to 'scrounger' perhaps?
Seems to me to be a rather strange situation.
