Pension not offered to all staff
3 Answers
Hi
I have just found out that the company I work for will not be making any pension contributions to my pension, as they will only allow you on the company scheme which they also contribute to if you are earning over a certain Salary threshold.
Firstly, are they able to offer this scheme only to certain better paid individuals and not all employees.
Secondly, I believe my request for a payrise may be rejected so as to keep me under the threshold to join this scheme, as I earn very close to the threshold at the moment.
Any ideas on this one ?

If they are not offering you the company scheme they do have to contrubute to the State Second Scheme on your behalf.
Its perfectly legal to differentiate on grounds of salary level, job title, employment service, and a host of others. It is down to what it says in your employment contract - and not all contracts are the same.
