My youngest son has applied for a job and will get a firm offer if his references check out. This is where the problem starts, he has never worked before and the referees have got to be ones he has worked with. The two he did put down are old school teachers and they were sent forms for detailing his work experience. So far it looks like he may lose this job before even starting despite explaining. Has this happened to anyone else!!
The prospective employers must know from his CV or application form that he hasn't worked before. In that case, school or college references are usually the norm. Has he ever done any work experience?
He can still have plenty of work experience at school, a head teacher can tell them a lot, my daughter applied for a job and her teacher gave her a glowing reference, stating things like tidy apperance ,good time keeper, presents her work well, keen to help others, so al is not lost..good luck to him.
My son only had this to offer for ages and we thought it was affecting his chances of getting a part time job , but after about a year of applying he got a job and they said 'Oh we never bother with the references for your age group ' and now he has work experiance he can put this on his next application form as well as the last job as a reference.
Keep plugging away you get there in the end and good luck!
As a teacher and careers coordinator for many years the employer will look at your son in the interview, past school reports, head teacher/school reference, and any work experience/ out of school jobs. Tell your son to apply with confidence and I am sure he will be fine. Lots of luck.
