changing bank details at work

I have asked my employer today if my wages can be paid into a new bank account , her answer was she will change bank details but I have to pay 20 pound for her to do this can she charge me for it many thanks GypsyX

Most employers put the wages calculation and payment out to specialised companies. If they charge to make changes then the employer might want to pass the cost on but I really cant see it myself.
Just give your employer your new bank details and tell them the old account is closed. They cant deduct money from your salary without your permission so dont agree to any deductions.

I have worked in Accounts for many years and have processed payroll using computer programs and using a bureau. I have never known any charges from a bureau to change bank details - they normally make a charge to cover all work based on the number of employees on the payroll. Also the computer programs I have used have a simple procedure to change bank details which would take a minute to complete. This is totally out of order. If your contract of employment does not give your employer the right to charge for items such as this then she cannot do it.
Thanks for your replys , I started work there in dec 2007 , as yet even though I have signed my half of contract she has yet to do so she also charges for uniforms at a cost of 20 pound , but insists all staff must wear them , she does all wages herself I feel like saying take a hike , but need the job at the moment , but I feel she is bang out of order on this one GypsyX

Over the uniform issue, your employer is required to provide you with any specialised workwear, including uniform. If you're required to provide it yourself, you should either have it paid for, or you should get a stated allowance towards it. The only thing you may have to pay towards it is tax (our drivers are technically supposed to pay tax if they won't wear logoed clothing, but it's so little that we never bother chasing it).
