Prison Questions
Getting sentenced in 2 weeks for GBH and expecting the worst. Am meeting brief later this week but some people on here seem to know alot about this stuff so might be able to answere questions I have
Is there a max distance they can send you away from home or can you end up in any prison?
If family member is really sick do they take that into account and can you get out to visit or for a funeral if that happens and do you get out on your own or with officers?
What stuff are you allowed bring in with you from the court?
Can you still smoke in prison with the ban?

But have you been warned to expect a custodial sentence ? After all, at the end of the day things may not turn out as bad as you might imagine and the sentence could be suspended.

Hello everyone.
Just a quick answer about what you can take to court with you. The only things you can take are money and clothes as you will be locked up with these and given them when you get to prison.By the way, you are only allowed out of prison to a funeral if it immediate family and you would be accompanied by at least 2 prison officers and of course handcuffed.
Hope this helps, good luck by the way!!!

Hi mate aiot of these guys are winding you up! I went through all your going through last year.Even your breif will make you fear the worst..I got done for G.B.H. broke a guys jaw he had to have two tittainium plates put in.It turns out he'd two unprovoked attacks before and had become desencitised in the view of his phycholagist.A right nutter but I had to plead guilty or else get banged up.
The case dragged ont all the time thinking the worstfor nearly a year.My partner and I were so worried thinking I was going down. It's got to be quite serious to warrant puttig you away.
It sounds like this is your first offence I had previous common assault. For the G.B.H. I got 9 months suspended for 12, 750.00 fine and 6 months probation.
Try not to worry too much ,all the very best. It's so easy for people to condem you after one stupid mistake

Told to expect 2-4 years by brief 7 is the maximum I could get. Hope it won't be any more than 2 and that the brief is saying longer to make him look good.
Have previous for affray and criminal damage so it doesn't help so it's not first offence but did go guilty.
Boner - hope you could be right. Thought that GBh pretty much meant definite time - how did you get away with it?

Couple things bout what you said
Didn't think you could end up anywhere - does that only happen now with the nicks being full?
What you mean by bracellets if it comes to a funeral?
Read the link you put up but that said they didn't let a guy out for a funeral eventhough he was only in for motoring stuff. Is it really that strict to get out?
You put in that link about getting strip searched and what happens - dread that just thinking about. You winding me up about bringing stuff in then assume you get a full search going in. Don't want to make things worse than they will be.

Hello again.
My friend was in prison last year. He was only doing a 63 month sentence for a motoring offence.
His cousin died suddenly who he was extremely close to and he wasn't allowed to go the funeral.
Apparently you can only go to immediate family i.e parents, siblings. Even then you can only go to the service and you would be handcuffed.
Hope this helps!
