How does Gary Lineker get to be the front man for the BBC on the Open Golf Championship? I mean, you don't see Alec Stewart fronting MOTD do you? Or Matt Dawson fronting Wimbledon? He must have a guardian angel at the BBC.

He sure gets the plum jobs, doesnt he. I think he plays golf, but so do a lot of better presenters.

He has a contract with the BBC so they have to find him some work to justify his big salary. I like Gary commentating on Football but as you say somebody up ther likes him. On the subject of presenters how does Hazel Irvine manage to commentate on snooker golf athelics etc, she has got to be the most boring "personality" going!

its not about golfing media though clarion, its about getting viewer figures up. whatever the golf hierachy think of him he is a popular sporting personality, this in turn will get more viewers than having a respected golfing no name at the helm.

Gary Lineker and his friend and fellow Leicestrian, Willie Thorn, are both great golfing men. It's 'second' sport for both of them. Since Lineker is also a well-liked presenter and general all round good egg, then fronting a golf championship seems sensible enough to me.
