Boring jobs
16 Answers
Every time I'm in an art gallery I feel sorry for the attendants there who sit in chairs staring blankly at the wall. Is this the most boring job there is- or does anyone have experience of one that is worse?

Doing nightshifts sitting at reception of an office building for example. Why don't you sart a conversation with them? It may brighten up their day!
I once had a summer job checking death certificates at the headquaters of a large life-assurance firm. It was like a prison sentence!
I would feel I had been there for hours, look at the clock, and realise it was only 5 past 9am...Just 1/94th through my day of drudge!
Market researchers .... be nice to them when they call, they probably don't like their job and like it even less when people are rude and/ or hang up on them! I did it for a while when in between jobs and found it so tedious. I was interviewing production companies about what equipment they use and it was so dull!
I used to do care assistant work with an agency. Some nights i would be sent on a "special", where the patient just really needs someone to sit beside their bed all night. So for 12 hours, i would sit there in a really uncomfortable chair, while the patient happily dozes away. Its all very well saying you can read or go into your imagination, but at 5am when you know you have 3 more hours of sitting, its a nightmare! Never again.
I had an evening job processing credit card applications - just punching in details onto a massive system. I regularly fell asleep doing it so I would like to apologise to all those people whoe refused an RBS Advanta VISA card for no apparent reason in 1995, it was probably becasue I fell asleep on my keyboard and typen in random stuff on your application.
I once had a job filing medical records all day - I had dreams filled with little number codes on the side of files.
On a side note, my husband once had a temp job as an art gallery guard/attendent. His job was to guard an exhibit that was a 15 foot tall table and chairs scaled to size, and he had to keep people from trying to climb on the chairs. His last day there - he couldn't resist. He climbed up on them, and got caught.
Yes, I've had too much experience of one, in my opinion, is more boring! A paperound! I did mine for seven hours a week (in the summer holidays...it was only one round but it took seven hours and it had to all be done on one day). It's basically paper-letterbox-paper-letterbox etc etc. The worst part is when you only get paid about 2.50 an hour for doing it. Oh yess, did I forget to mention I got stuck outside the other side of town in the thunder and pouring rain once...in the end the only thing I could do was laugh because the roads were flooded and I was soaked through...I could go on and on but I won't :)
