Recommend your favourite Lodon Pub(s)
6 Answers
Here'a chance to recommend a good pub in central London. By central London I mean the city, West End etc. not downtown Deptford etc.
Criteria ? Good selection of beers and food.
Traditional, unspoilt interior
Character.
Good staff.
Here's two of mine: 1. The Black Friar, near Blackfriars Bridge. This place is a shrine to the Arts & Crafts movement. Original A&C furniture, carvings, frieze etc. Great beers. Saved from demolition by John Betjemen. A real jewel.
2. The Salisbury, St Martins Lane, Charing Cross. Favourite drinking hole of Lawrence Olivier and Vivien Leigh after their performances on stage and before ditto in bed ! All original Victorian ( Edwardian ?) interior. Fabulous staff and a good selection of Real Ales and food.
Cheers ! Derek.

I used to like the Coal Hole on the Strand for a bit of character, no idea about food, we only stopped in on the way home from work (years back now) and drank beer. Richard Harris (Dumbledore) used to regularly prop up the bar and abuse all the customers he lived in the Savoy.
I doubt it has the same appeal now though.
