We got to try bits of everything including basic digital imaging, ceramics, painting, still life, sketching, found art etc.. It might be a bit different now, how old are you if you don't mind me asking? might be that a higher course like a GNVQ is more appropriate for you if you are older than 16.
As for my favourite artists: Andy Warhol, Van Gogh, THe scream by Edvard Munch is a good one (and predictable) Juan Miro. If you go to The Works (stationary and book shop) they usually have a load of cheap books focusing on one particular artist or movement, always good for research and for copying pictures to decorate your room with. Good luck anyway with what you decide to do and hope you have fum doing it!
randomsugar - I started with the pre-raphealites and they are still my favourite group of artists (and their later followers). Rossetti, Burne - Jones, Waterhouse, Alma-Tameda, Millais, etc, etc. Also love Monet's waterlilies. Then there is sculpture. I could go on. I am an art bore!!! Currently reading a great book about Lizzie Siddall (who was married to Rossetti) - I told you I am an art bore. What sort of thing do you like.. SarahBelle
