can someone tell me what student grants/loans are officially meant to pay for? i.e. tutoring, accommodation, books and food etc?

The loan for tuition fees is to cover tuition fees which are paid direct to the university.

Any other loans/grants have to be applied for and can be spent however you want but somehow you need to find the funds for accommodation etc. The loan is normally only just about enough to cover accommodation. So if you want to eat, live, travel and buy books you'll need some more funding of your own. Depending on whether you qualify for a grant (and maybe bursaries) you'll probably also need to find between �150 and �300 a month- either from your parents or from you getting part time work

does anyone know how your benefits are affected if you became a full time student i am a mature lone parent with an 8 and 4 year old.

Yes, you can take students loans from aone loans. It is a firm in UK which provides diffrent loans.

In my opinion yes it is possible. One of my friend was suffering from this situation and she get 12 month loans from https://www.metroloans.uk/ . So you can also apply it .
