hi radek..please tread carefully my friend! i've just had a friend lose everything because his shotblasting business (in n.ireland)went down the toilet. the running costs of this kind of operation are unbeliveable..factor in the cost of replacing your compressor twice a year and that is only the start...this guy really knocked himself into the ground working massive hours for five years but just couldn't make it pay. he's got a really good head for buisness and just couldn't make it work despite trying every angle...if you do go ahead with it i wish you all the best but PLEASE go and seek advice from someone in the buisness outside your area before you start out! cheers :0)

hi gonzo, thanks for your answer mate. i should have worded my question a little more carefully, what i meant was that i saw a job vacancy looking for shot blasters/industrial painters and i wanted to look into how to get training or certification for it. been out of work due to breaking my collarbone and using this time to try and find a change of path.
thanks for your advice though, appreciated mate.
if you have any idea how i'd go about training etc though it'd really help as i keep hitting dead ends.
cheers
no probs mate, next time i'm speaking to my friend i'll ask him if he ever knew of any training available and get back to ya! cheers. or you could just blag it and put in for such a job and wing your way through it...after all my friend was a deep sea diver before!

Cheers mate that'd be a big help.

Totally, I was thinking about winging it but really don't know anything about it ...away to have scan about online and see what I can find out.

Thanks again

Try ICATS training. this would provide you with a certificate. but now certificate will beat hands on experience.
Hodge Clemco also had a training coarse but I am unsure it they still run it.
Hi,

If you live in scotland and are looking to start this I saw in the paper the other week that Petrofac have started running trainee courses in Blasting & Painting - i think it is aimed at offshore people but it might be worth a check - their website is www.petrofactraining.com but if you type it into google the press stuff comes up on the main Petrofac page.

Hope this helps! good luck!

Hi.
BIS Salamis started running the OPITO trainee blaster / Painter course in March this year. You can find out more on www.salamis.com. courses are run monthly in Aberdeen. They also run a competence assessment course for experienced blaster / painters who are looking for a certificate to prove their competency.
