Only when one is on Income-based JSA.

does it say, on the back of the prescription, income based JSA or just JSA, when i was on JSA it was contribution based and i got free prescriptions

I'm merely reporting what the Government's own website says.
Maybe Danchip is entitled for some other reason, from the long list of exemptions.

But if you are not entitled then you're not - do you get a certificate to say you dont have to pay?

The rules are no different in Scotland than they are in England - just the prices unfortunately!
Prices go down again in April this year to �4 then �3 next year to eventually to be scrapped altogether in 2011 - lucky you

I am on Incapacity Benefit and Disability Allowance and am still not entitled to free prescriptions even though I need 4 lots of tablets each month. It doesn' make sense. You can get free prescriptions if you are unemployed but not if you're sick!!

You (anyone really) can get a season ticket (dunno what it is properly called) so that if you do have a lot of prescriptions, you can reduce the cost. See the pharmacist or here
