can anybody help me with the Clipper Ship history question ?

This is a question related to the development of transport activity course, i can hardly find much more information about it, can anyone help me with that?

The question is :
What were the reasons for the development of clipper ships in the third quarter of the nineteenth century and why were they used for only a short time?

i have found a lot about the clipper ships in the 18th century, thanks for anyones contribution :)
