legal break times for a 40hr working week

I've been offered a new job of 40 hours but have been told they will only pay me 37.5 as i'll be taking a half hour lunch break, is this correct or am i entitled to a half hour lunch break by law anyway?

does any want a worker for grocerstores resturant and cafe?

You are not legally entitled to paid lunch breaks unless this is stated in the contract of employment.
The employer is acting within the law.

Your contract will for for 37.5 hours, not 40.

You are not legally entitled to paid morning,lunch or afternoon breaks unless this is otherwise stated in the contract, but they must, give you a min 15mins break every 4 hours.

Should add, you could be contracted to 40 hours per week
which could mean you are at work for 9 hours a day but only paid for 8 considering break times.

laptopsteve, its after 6 hours not 4 but a lot of employers allow one after 4 hours
