In June I am being made redundant. I last signed on in 1988. I guess things have changed since then. I am after some insight as to what to expect on my first visit. Will I still have to queue up and sign on every 2 weeks. I have a holiday booked in July, can I still sign on for those 2 weeks. Any advise please.
Yeah you do need to go every 2 weeks, you go and hand your book in and then have to wait until they call your name out to go and actually sign on. You don't have to actually queue. You also have to register your claim and then attend an interview before you start signing.
Unless the rules have change, then yes, you can srill go on holiday but you wont get any money for the time you are away, after all you will not be available for work, will you?
To get JSA you must be actively seeking employment (ASE) and available for employment . As long as you are not on holiday outwith Great Britain you can be treated as ASE for two weeks. You must tell the Jobcentre before you go away. You can also be treated as available for employment as long as you are prepared to return immediately if the offer of employment comes up and you have made arrangements for vacancies to be notified to you.
