I think I may have to sue the school I work for. I went on a year group trip to a little village.. ok, don't laugh but, after leaving the church, we crossed the road and I slipped on some moss, fell flat on my hands and knees and grazed both of my knees (quite badly, I might add)
Clearly, they didn't pick up on that in the risk assessment grrrrr.
squidgy, could you not have supported the school by being a parent helper if you had any worries regarding adult:child ratios?

What a pathetic trip - not a learning experience at all and no fun for the kids, not to mention totally distressing for the parents. Hopefully your child will be 12 soon and able to go to senior school with more intelligent teachers who are able to evaluate risks properly and show a good example in respecting safety advice.
I am surprised by some of the previous posts suggesting that you are over-reacting...it must have been a real shock to you and totally unnecessary. The sad fact is that a lot of teachers are repressed and unhappy in their workplace so when they do go on a trip then they see it as a chance to regain some of their youth by identifying with the kids, which is inappropriate.
I don't think you would be able to sue the teachers but you can ask for a full investigation into their negligence and hopefully the governors will be involved.
Even though you are rightly upset, try not to get wound up when you are speaking to the staff as they sometimes (even unknowingly) take it out on the child. Good luck.

Squidgy obviously didn't want to sound hysterical in the post but evidently the kids were dashed against the rocks and could easily have hit their heads...they were choking on the sea water, not drinking it, after being overwhelmed by the waves!
The teachers were negligent and didn't have any influence over the consequences of their actions, it was left to the power of nature, which is reprehensible...really shocking.
There just simply has to be more control over teachers' supervisory roles in future because the calibre of the teachers is so much lower than in previous generations.

You're responsible for your own research before you agree to school trips. I adult to 7 children is compulsory.
