I am considering maybe a new career direction in healthcare.
I was talking to somebody the other day who works at the Hospital and she said you can get a job and they train you on the job. After looking at the NHS website I'm not sure this is right. Does anyone know how to get into this?

Hi SazzyCo. You can get a job at the hospital as a Healthcare Assistant, which you are trained for 'on the job'. This is what I do. If you want to be a nurse, you would have to do a uni diploma or degree. A Healthcare Assistant (HCA) does most of the personal care of patients (i.e - washing / dressing / taking to toilet etc) and also takes blood pressure etc, but doesn't deal with handing out drugs or taking bloods etc. I think it varies from hospital to hospital.

If you want to know anything else then i'll try to help.

To get into it you would either need to apply when a job vacancy comes up for Healthcare Assistant, or contact the hospital about going on the 'Bank' (basically the hospital's own agency)
