groups on social networking sites

hi all i have created a group on a well know social networking site which uses the name of a foreign hotel where we stayed during a holiday last year. the group clearly states that it is totally random and just for fun for people who have stayed there.
i have received an email from the hotel this morning telling me that i cannot use their name and that i must change the password and email address from my own to one which they have told me to use and that i have no respect for the staff or guests by creating this group. The group as i have mentioned is just for fun and there are no nasty comments on the group from people just messages about their holiday there.
The email i have received tells me that i must transfer the group over to them. can they do this????

They can't demand that you hand the group over to them,they can however demand that you change the name if it is a Trademark or copyright name for their hotel.

hi thanks for that there are no copyright signs on any of their literature. they have sent me another email stating that i am damaging their business i find this a ridiculous comment by them i am in no way damaging anything and am really getting quite upset about it all now.

It's all a little pathetic to be perfectly honest with you - if you are really that upset about it delete the whole group, simple and then, in all seriousness, get a life.
Why do you think you are allowed to use the name someone else is using in the real world as your own?

Just change the name of the group. Simple, no more upset and no more email's from the hotel. Simple and easy solution, oh and everyone will be happy.
